Who’s Directing Your Path?

img_1203Proverbs 3:5-6  Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path. (NIV)

As a Christian, when I read this quickly, I think it’s encouraging, but in reality, it is literally gold and should be treated as such.  This verse is now being revealed to me as the only answer to life’s twists, turns, and difficult situations.  First and foremost, it is a promise from GOD that requires certain actions to gain the outcome laid out at the end of the verse.  If I capture the essence of what is intended here, I just might know what to do with my life after children!!!  LOL!!!  I’m almost an empty nester!!   Seriously though, if I’m not centered on the Lord and his provision for me, I can obsess about life and anxiety can creep into my mind, no matter what the situation is that I’m dealing with.

Wouldn’t we all love to know which path to take when life changes in an instant? Wouldn’t it be great to know what the heck we’re supposed to do when life is crumbling around us or when those that we love are hurting?  This verse is a promise requiring complete trust, but the question is….are we willing to give up control, let His Spirit work in and through us, and allow Him to own us in order to receive those directions?   If I am honest, I would say that in certain areas of my life I am willing, and in others, I’m not there yet.  What a sinful soul that I am not to trust fully the God who created me!  I have joy though, in my heart, as I confess this out loud because I am saved by grace, I’ve already been forgiven for my selfishness, and I know that He’s not finished with me yet.  He’s not finished with you either!  He loves us beyond our comprehension and He works patiently to sanctify us as we are convicted by His teachings.

The second part of Proverbs 3:5-6 says to “acknowledge Him in all of my ways”!  This, I believe, is the key to trusting God more, but how do we do this?  We have to recognize that with everything that we are, we are NOT, but He is!  In other words with everything that we are, we must give Him the credit because He is the great I AM!!  As mother, father, wife, husband, teacher, friend, consumer, neighbor, singer, writer, and all the other things He has made us to be and allowed us to experience, To God Be the Glory!  When we want to take credit, we can’t!  If we do, we begin to trust more in ourselves, we forget our Almighty God who loves us so much, and we begin to take wrong turns or even step off of the path that He has set before us and walk in our own ways.

As my heart is melting to His inherent Word today, He is preparing me to acknowledge Him more in my life so that I can trust Him with more of my heart.  As you pray through this amazing verse, if you are struggling with trust, He will help you too!  Be encouraged, GOD LOVES YOU!!!!

Lord, as we draw close to you and as you hold us near.
We will see your light before our eyes, your path will be made clear.
