The New You vs. The New Year
After many years of making “New Year’s Resolutions”, I’ve come to the conclusion that these resolutions are not achieving anything for me except feelings of defeat. After talking with many people, it seems that this defeatist attitude has met their futures as well, many times over.
Each year brings trials, stresses, mountain tops and valleys that were present last year and the year before, but in different forms. Life’s issues have a way of countering the pounds you want to lose, the new position you would like to have, the relationship you need to end, and the financial goals you want to achieve.
So, how do we successfully begin a new year. Instead of beginning the year with new resolutions, let’s begin with what the Bible calls a “New You”. Ephesians 6:5 says, “I am a new creation in Christ. All things are passed away and behold all things have become new.” Let’s resolve not to be someone who makes resolutions, but resolve to be a Christ seeking person that strives to be Christ centered throughout the year. This will change not only the resolutions that we make, but it will also change the way we operate under times of trial and stress. When we look to Christ to give us peace in the midst of life’s storms, He will. That peace that passeth all understanding is what leaves us centered and focused and able to achieve the goals that He has established for our new year.
Our positivity comes from the savior and will keep us looking up instead of down and looking ahead instead of behind. Our attitude will be one of hope and anticipation instead of despair and disappointment. Colossians 1:9-12 – ……..We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,[a] 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you[b] to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.
So, today instead of wishing you a Happy New Year, I want to wish you a Happy NEW YOU for 2017!
